SubhaanAllah – Glory be to Allah

Filed under: Reminders — Awakening Art @ 1:38 am

SubhaanAllah

Mixed media on canvas

2010

Peace and salaams to all.

SubhaanAllah, glory truly is for Allah. He works in ways we cannot even comprehend. But when we see our lives unfold before us, subhaanAllah we truly understand that whatever Allah SWA does is always for the best!

Having returned home from a wedding function where I met many people, relatives and friends I had not seen in a very long time, I sat to contemplate my conversations of the evening. One in particular made me appreciate the good in people and also taught me a few things about sabr, patience. As I was talking to this friend/cousin about our lives, I realised I was actually telling myself , reminding myself how Allah SWA works. It also reminded me I need to practice what I preached and also that whatever life befalls me, there is always someone in a worse off situation than myself. I truly believe we meet people in our lives for reasons only Allah SWA knows. Some friends come and go, some remain by your side till the end, but they were meant to meet you and you were meant to meet them. Allah SWA alone knows the reason why, but as time goes by, He may disclose the reason and you then appreciate His mercy upon you for introducing you to that person. Good friends help you through the most difficult of times, (Thank you Gazala), whilst also helping you celebrate the best of times.

S____m I pray Allah SWA guides your heart and soul towards complete contentment and happiness, and by the side of the one you love and miss. But most importantly I pray He guides you to a status of complete faith in Him and Him alone, to do the very best for you Insha-Allah! Aameen.

Allah-Hu-Akbar, God is the Greatest

ALLAH-HU-AKBAR (God is the Greatest)

MIXED MEDIA (ACRYLIC & BEADS ON CANVAS).

40 X 50 CM.

2010.

Salaams to all,

The glorification of God is one practiced by all faiths and all creatures in the heavens and on earth.

The following are a few quotes from the Bible and the Quran.

“He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who is seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him” (John 7:18).

“Make me know Thy ways, O LORD; teach me Thy paths” (Psalm 25:4).

“Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme!” (Quran 56:74)

“Glory to the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Lord of the Throne (of Authority)! (He is free) from the things they attribute (to him)! (Quran 43:82)
And you shall see the angels encircling the throne exalting with the praise of their Lord. and the matter will be justly decided between them, and it shall be said: ‘praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all the worlds! (Quran 39:75)
God is glorified in order to appreciate Him, show our adoration and respect, show our love and affection, and to gain and reap the rewards of His pleasure.

Oil on Canvas

Peace and salaam to all,

I pray you are all keeping well Insha-Allah.

I came across this quote this morning by Mahatma Gandhi and had to share it together with another sunset painting I painted a few weeks ago, a miniture one this time.

The quote went as follows:

When I admire the wonders of a sunset or the beauty of the moon, my soul expands in the worship of the creator.
Mohandas Gandhi

I pray your Jumuah went well and that God accepts all our worship Insha-Allah.

I recently read this quote;

Love of beauty is taste. The creation of beauty is art.

It automatically made me think of the verse in Surah Ar-Rahmaan, “Which of God’s favours will you deny!”

The world is the biggest piece of art around us and God is the Artist of all Artists! Alhamdulillah!

Everything He has created is beautiful, every mountain, every sunset, every beautiful baby’s face, which of His favours can we deny?

I have posted this sunset once before many years ago but decided to share once more.

Ramadan Mubarak to you all. Had to share this beautiful Rumi poem with you:

Rumi’s Ramadan Poem

O moon-faced Beloved,
the month of Ramadan has arrived
Cover the table
and open the path of praise.

O fickle busybody,
it’s time to change your ways.
Can you see the one who’s selling the halvah
how long will it be the halvah you desire?

Just a glimpse of the halvah-maker
has made you so sweet even honey says,
“I’ll put myself beneath your feet, like soil;
I’ll worship at your shrine.”

Your chick frets within the egg
with all your eating and choking.
Break out of your shell that your wings may grow.
Let yourself fly.

The lips of the Master are parched
from calling the Beloved.
The sound of your call resounds
through the horn of your empty belly.

Let nothing be inside of you.
Be empty:  give your lips to the lips of the reed.
When like a reed you fill with His breath,
then you’ll taste sweetness.

Sweetness is hidden in the Breath
that fills the reed.
Be like Mary – by that sweet breath
a child grew within her.

~ Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi ~

May Allah SWA give us all abundant barakah and reward. May He bless us with true eemaan, tranquility & taqwa, and optimum health and guidance to true success that leads us to Jannat-tul-Firdaus. Insha-Allah, Aameen.
Please remember this sister in your du’as Insha-Allah!

Peace and salaam to all.

Kalimat Exhibition 17th Aug – 13th Sept 2010

Filed under: Art, Art Exhibition, Ramadan — Awakening Art @ 11:50 am

Peace and salaams to all.

The month of August is here bringing with it the joys and blessings of the beautiful month of Ramadan.

I am looking forward to this month for more reasons than one. Apart from the fact that Ramadan is my ultimate fave month in the Islamic calendar, this year will be a time when some of my paintings will be submitted to a group exhibition due to run during the month of Ramadan Insha-Allah.

They will be going to Dubai to the Kalimat Exhibition, held at the Gallery of Light at (DUCTAC) Dubai Community Theatre & Arts Centre at the mall of the Emirates, from 17th August to 13th September Insha-Allah.

The word Kalimat literally means ‘words’. The Arabic lettering system is a recognizably beautiful one used not only for communication, but also in art for centuries.  DUCTAC celebrates a fascinating ancient art and displays how it has developed with modern technology.
On display will be artworks by emerging Artists from the UK, UAE, Oman, India, USA and Australia.

The diverse group, share a passion either for traditional calligraphy or a more contemporary approach to presenting the written Arabic language. On display will be everything from hand-painted calligraphy to digitally produced and printed lettering and textured works.

As said during last years 1St Kalimat Exhibition;

“Calligraphy exhibitions are not difficult to interpret’, says DUCTAC’s Visual Arts & Special Projects Manager Fathima Mohiuddin. “It’s a beautiful art form after all. We want to show how artists from different cultures have really developed it to create some contemporary and equally stunning work. All the work on display is extremely colorful, vibrant and original”.

Wish me look as I prepare and organise to send my work Insha-Allah.

Ar-Rahmaan / The Most Compassionate

2008
Acrylic on Canvas
40 x 50 cm

Salaams to all,

I pray you are all keeping well Insha-Allah.

The above painting is one of many which were exhibited at  The Rotary Dragon Boat Festival at Royal Victoria Dock in London in May 2010. This particular piece was auctioned off on the day to raise funds for the Apex Primary School in Ilford.

God is the one who wills mercy & good for all creation. At all times, He pours upon all creation, infinite bounties. The blue strip in the painting represents the straight path. Those who follow the straight path, will be showered with God’s mercy and compassion. The background represents His blessings showered upon us. The shaded white area is our inability to recognise His bounties. Ar-Rahmaan in the centre is written in a decorative Kufi style Arabic script.

May God shower His blessings on you all IA.

Tawakaltu-al-Allah (We put our faith and trust in Allah) written in Thuluth style script over a background of energetic acrylic colours on canvas. Framed in a large kashmiree hand carved frame.

2007

60cm x 170cm

Peace and salaams to all. Once again I have left it for quite a while before posting something on my blog. We have settled into the new year and are  nearly into our 3rd month. I pray you have all kept well Insha-Allah during this ever so cold period.

I recently came across a quote by Albert Einstein that really got me thinking. The quote was as follows:

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle ~ Albert Einstein ~

I posted this on my facebook page to be questioned which way I would choose. My reply to the question was:

I believe in the latter as I believe we can see a miracle in everything Allah has given us. His bounties are endless but we fail to recognise that. It is only when we recognise the bounties of Allah SWA can we fully appreciate how much we are blessed and thank Him for all He gives us. Sometimes even something or someone He takes away from us can be a blessing but at the time we do not see it! It may be years later when you can appreciate that what happened, happened for the best. Only Allah knows the best for us and in Him do we put our faith & trust!

What really fascinated me though was the fact that this quote was quoted by a scientist and not a known spiritualist. Only Allah SWA knows what is in our hearts and minds and He is the one to give Hidayah.

Till the next time,

Peace and salaams

Allah / Mohammad
2009
80 x 40 cm
Acrylic & Marble Dust on Canvas

A gold and chocolate brown corresponding abstract piece with the names Allah & Mohammad in contrasting corners. This painting is in mixed media with the acrylic paint mixed with course marble dust to create the texture of a sand like background.

Peace and salaams to all.

A recent death in the family has left me contemplating my own departure from this world and the preparations I have made for it.

My cousin who was only 33 years of age passed away on the evening of Thursday 5th November and was buried after the Jummah prayers on Friday. She has left behind 3 Masha-Allah beautiful young children all under the age of 9, the youngest being only 22 months. She herself was a beautiful girl, not just on the outside but most importantly, on the inside too. Her warm smile always greeted you with love, her calm manner always put you at ease and her happy go lucky attitude to life, reminded you why she was loved by all. Having passed away with little warning, she herself became the warning for us all!

The last time I wrote about a family member passing away, I talked about my dear father-in-law. That was over 3 years ago. I wrote then about how much we all prepare for events in our lives. Our preparations for weddings, for Eid, for the holidays are so comprehensive, but how much do we prepare for our final and ultimate destination. These last few days have left me reflecting and questioning  how much have i tried to educate myself on death or the hereafter since my last post regarding my father-in-laws passing? How much has my eemaan or taqwa increased since then? How much have I prepared for the time when I will be called to my maker?

Every moment of time that passes, decreases one’s life span and the dying moment of the dying comes ever nearer. Each and every person has to live through the moments of death and face this event alone.

It is only a matter of time and time will eventually humble all.

“Every soul shall taste death and only on the Day of Judgement will you be given what you earned”. Quran, Al-Imran, (3):185

I pray Allah SWA grants my cousin the highest place in Jannah and saves her from the punishment of the grave, filling it with light and sweet smells of Jannah. I pray He gives patience to all the family at this time of grief. I pray Allah SWA gives the most patience to her 3 daughters and fills their lives with happiness and true eemaan Insha-Allah. Aameen.

The textured strip detail on the right of the painting has been painted using a base of cream with maroon over tiny glass beads.

Kun FayaKoon / “BE” and it is!
2009
50 x 70 cm
Acylic on Canvas

This painting with its striking dark background and central fusion of colour symbolises the existence out of non-existence that God created. The fusion of colours represents atoms forming in the beginning of time where God just says Kun Fayakoon – BE and it is. This is an extract of verse 82 in chapter 36 of the Quran. It is also mentioned in other verses of the Quran on a number of occasions.

Salaams to all.

It certainly has been such a long time since my last post. I had tried very hard during ramadan (which seems like a lifetime away), to keep away from the computer. After a two month detox of the net, I was succombed to it once again. Hope you all had a fantastic and memorable Eid!

The events of the last couple of months, has certainly put a new perspective to life and to the hereafter. We make our plans for the future, but we seem to be constantly reminded by the Almighty, that He is the best of planners, Alhamdulillah.

Life is too short to stress or worry about what has happened or what may happen. Allah SWA always does the best for us and we just need to take that leap of faith and put our total trust in His hands Insha-Allah. Prayer and reflection will take you far, for Allah can put our affairs in order whenever He wills.

Remember this sister in your prayers.

Shahadah / Declaration of Faith

Contemporary far eastern influenced abstract painting with Shahadah written in Kufi style. The red circle represents the one-ness and everlasting attribute of God and the five textured layers in the red, represent the five pillars of Islam. The textured black at the top represents chaos outside of the faith. True belief in the shahadah and practising the pillars of Islam, brings your soul out of the darkness and into the light of Islam. Shahadah translates:  ‘There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is the messenger Of God.’

Salaams to all,

I pray you all are keeping well Insha-Allah. Alhamdulillah, Friday evening’s Muslim Youth Helpline’s Annual Dinner was quite an eye-opener. I had not realised that so many people of different ages suffer the way they do. We certainly take our lives for granted, living in a bubble of self-centred emotions. The volunteers of MYH do a fantastic job in helping so many in trouble and in need of saving. It really is a worthy cause so please support them as much as you can.

The above painting of mine was one which was auctioned off during the evening and Alhamdulillah it went well. The winning bidder bought it as a gift for his mother. I hope she enjoys the painting as much as I enjoyed painting it.

Peace and salaams to all.

99 Names of Allah – Al-Wali / The Patron

Filed under: Art — Awakening Art @ 4:03 pm

0030 Al Wali

Al-Wali / The Patron

Life is like a piece of marble, emotions we feel, people we meet.

Events we go through in our life. The darkness, the light that guides us.

These are inter-twined to create the picture of life. Without friends, the marble would be a darker shade.

With Allah SWA by your side as your best friend, your patron, there is only Light upon Light!

Insha-Allah.

Salaams to all.

The above painting is one of my older pieces. I wrote the above to go with it. The marble background represents our life intertwined with darkness and peace. Al-Wali has been highlighted in gold to emphasize the light you go towards once you remember your creator. This piece is acrylic on paper, size 40x50cm.

I recently had a minor operation and am recovering well Alhamdulillah. Sometimes when adversity hits us, its quite easy to question why we are being tested. Its simply human nature. We have to keep reminding ourselves that any illness or hardship, any type of adversity is a test from the Allmighty. We need to keep our faith and also not beat ourselves up for our questioning. Allah SWA is our Wali, our patron, our best friend and he always provides ease after hardship. You don’t see it at the time, but afterwards you see that something good has also come out of the initial hardship. Allah SWA alone knows whats best for us, we just have to keep faith!

I pray Allah SWA eases everybody’s hardships, whether they are ill, in poverty, lost or in any kind of dark despair. May He guide us all to the light of peace and tranquility. Ameen

Till the next time,

Peace and salaams to all.

99 Names of Allah – Ar-Rahmaan / The Most Compassionate

Filed under: Art, Art Exhibition, Charity Piece — Awakening Art @ 9:09 pm

0021 Ar Rahmaan

Ar-Rahmaan / The Most Compassionate

Allah is the one who wills mercy and good for all creation, at all times. He pours upon all creation infinite bounties but do we recognise these blessings.

This painting has a background of beige, white & silver and represents the blessings of Allah SWA showered upon us. The effect was created using acrylic paint and rock salt. Ar-Rahmaan is written in an elaborate Kufic style script in brown acrylic highlighted with a silver lining. Because of the elaborate design on the script, the name is barely recognisable, just as the bounties of Allah SWA.

Frame size : 40 x 50 cm

Till the next time

Peace and salaams to all.

Umm Aisha
